PADI ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR COURSE (AI)

The PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) course is a 4-day course designed to prepare PADI Divemasters or equivalent to become PADI Assistant Instructors. This course begins the PADI Instructor Development process and is scheduled during the first 4 days of our Instructor Development Course (IDC). The PADI Assistant Instructor rating authorizes you to function as an instructional assistant and independently conduct certain PADI programs. Successful completion of the AI course also qualifies you to participate in the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program.

PADI Instructor Development Course IDCCombining the AI course and the OWSI program into a continuous program makes up the entire IDC.

Our unique 4-day free IDC Pre-Study and Preparation Workshop is also available to our PADI Assistant Instructor candidates. Likewise our one month free Instructor and/or Divemaster Internship is available to graduates of our Assistant Instructor courses to help better prepare you for the OWSI program and IE. In fact this is the ideal way to go for those wanting to be well prepared Instructors with greater chance of success at the IE and if time is not an issue.

You have several training options and flexibility for reaching your professional goals depending on your current certification level, experience level, time restraints, etc. Options include:

  • PADI Divemasters – you may choose just to attend the AI course first and later on after gaining more experience go on to complete the OWSI program.
  • PADI Divemasters – you may attend the full IDC and, upon successful completion, go on to the IE (as long as all other IE prerequisites are met).
  • PADI Divemasters with between 60 and 100 dives – only applicable to PADI 5 Star Career Development Centers, such as Asia Divers , you may attend the full IDC and provided you have been certified 6 months, have logged 60 dives, are a candidate of our 6 week career development program, or are enrolled in 5 pre- and/or post-IDC courses (such as EFR Instructor, Specialty Instructor, etc.), upon successful completion, go on to the IE (as long as all other IE prerequisites are met). You must also be certified as an Assistant Instructor. However your paperwork will not be processed until you meet the100-logged dives and you will be certified once your graduation registration packets and IE forms have been processed. Completing our free Instructor Internship either before or after your OWSI program or IE is one excellent way to build up your dives.
  • Our IDC Pre-Study and Preparation Workshop is optional but highly recommended for everyone. Preparation is the key to your success. Please request our separate document on How to Prepare for the IDC.
